Citizens have gathered across the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted assault on October 7th, 2023, as discussions proceeded in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the war in Gaza.

The assault led to more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured back to Gaza as captives. It was the uniquely most lethal day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Israel responded by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, according to the territory's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its numbers are considered accurate by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"Our aggressive opponents have hit us hard, but they have not broken us," the leader remarked on Tuesday.

He also promised to "accomplish all the aims of the war: the release of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas government and the guarantee that Gaza will never again pose a risk to Israel".

Memorial Gatherings Across Israel

The national leadership rescheduled official memorials until October 16th - after the completion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but ceremonies still were held throughout the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the relatives of Israeli citizens who lost their lives in the Hamas incident was conducted in Tel Aviv. Organized by the affected families, it was televised on Israeli television channels.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was respected across the country.

Ceasefire Discussions in Egypt

Simultaneously, the conflicting parties' representatives met in the North African tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a follow-up session of third-party negotiations to discuss the provisions of the plan.

A senior delegate familiar with the negotiations said that an late session of indirect talks began at 7 PM local time.

The official said the day's discussions ended without tangible results, due to differences over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas demands to make certain Israel does not restart hostilities after the initial stage of the agreement.

He added that the talks are "tough and have yet to deliver any significant progress," but noted that facilitators are making efforts to reduce the differences between the two sides.

Critical Matters in Talks

  • An enduring truce
  • The swap of the hostages still detained by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The pullout of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Measures for humanitarian aid distribution
  • Future management of the area

Public Reaction

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling endured the assault on the gathering, where 378 people were killed and dozens more were captured by Hamas militants - shared: "No place appears as home any longer and until each abducted person return not a single person will feel safe."

"When we see everybody home again, we can relax anew. Then we can begin to heal," she concluded.

Outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's home in Jerusalem, people congregated to show their support for the loved ones of the captives. Israel reports 48 remain in captivity in Gaza, 20 of whom are thought to be alive.

Demonstrator a participant stated: "It's necessary do whatever arrangement required for the abducted to come back home. But we sincerely need guarantees that we will be safe."

Surveys now frequently demonstrate that around seventy percent of Israeli citizens prefer the hostilities to finish in as payment for the liberation of the abducted.

Gaza Conditions

At the location of Nova festival, grieving people gathered to honor the dead.

From that location, the boom of aerial bombardments and shelling could be heard just a short distance away in Gaza, where witnesses indicated the intense Israeli attacks continued.

In the urban center, attacks were noted in the dawn of Tuesday in the western neighborhood, sector and locality areas and in the eastern district of Sheikh Radwan, as well Shati refugee camp to the northwest.

"Once the dusk arrives, the dread comes with it," relocated Gaza City resident a local woman, whose teenage son was killed by an Israeli bombing last year, described.

"Me and my three children are terrified of the bombings. During nighttime we are resting together, holding each other, particularly my little child who puts his head on me the entire evening."

"Continuously we look at the reports to see the situation. And I'm worried that this truce will not be completed and that the fighting will resume to us."

Health Crisis

The medical facility in the urban area announced it had accepted the bodies of six people by the daytime, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli strike in the southern district.

Nasser hospital in the southern city of the city said additional fatalities had been brought there. One of them was killed by Israeli troops while looking for help to the southern area, medical staff said.
