Spurs Boss Thomas Frank Calls Vicario Critics 'Not Real Fans'

Fulham Start Strong to Beat Tottenham and Increase Tension on Frank

Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed afterwards "those individuals can't be true Spurs fans" by manager Thomas Frank.

Tottenham conceded a pair of goals in the first six minutes to fall 2-1 to Fulham, marking their tenth Premier League at home loss of the year.

However the main topic of discussion was Fulham's second score when Vicario lost the ball far outside his box.

He came out to deal with a long ball and carried the ball near the touchline.

However, instead of kicking it into touch, the Italy international turned and attempted to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by King.

King laid the ball off to Wales midfielder Wilson, who bent a shot into the goal from the touchline recorded at 36.6 yards.

Seconds afterwards when the ball came to Vicario once more, some Tottenham fans jeered him.

Spurs were booed off at half-time, with the side 2-0 down, and again at the final whistle.

A particular of those booing episodes really angered Frank.

"It came to my attention some of our fans reportedly jeered the situation and booed following, which, in my opinion is completely unjustifiable," the Dane commented regarding the supporters' reaction to his shot-stopper.

"Those individuals cannot be real Spurs supporters that act that way. Fair enough jeering following the match, fine, but when we are playing, we are supporting one another, we are with each other going forward."

Kenny Tete had given Fulham a fourth-minute advantage before Harry Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an improved second-half showing.

Former top-flight keeper Joe Hart remarked that the second score was "totally preventable".

"I certainly understand the supporters' disappointment," Hart added. "I am aware the part the keeper is performing. He's a great team player, he is a true leader in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your actions.

"He was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the winning goal."

'It is Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'

Thomas Frank Defended His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match

Italian international Vicario is in his third campaign with Tottenham.

The 29-year-old said after the match that he had to accept the feedback.

"That goal was a mistake of mine, I take accountability for that," he said.

"The intent was to clear the ball long and I simply hit the ball in a bad way. It was an more difficult mountain to climb."

He said receiving jeers "is part of football".

"I am mature, what can I say?" he added. "The team cannot be influenced by the circumstances in the stands. The fans have the entitlement to do what they think.

"It's on the team to stay more composed, to concentrate on ourselves. We are lacking in calmness and poise to reverse outcomes. Today is a poor defeat and it is tough to take."

'I Was Surprised Nobody Returned to the Line'

Despite Vicario's mistake, it was far from an simple score for Wilson to score.

Actually it was the second most distant top division score of the season – following Tyler Adams' forty-three point three yard goal for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which interestingly too occurred on Saturday.

The goalscorer stated he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an empty net to aim for.

10 moments passed between Vicario coming out of his box and Wilson shooting – which was 5 seconds after the kick.

"I felt like the goalkeeper was away from the box for ages," Wilson said.

"I was surprised not one of the defenders returned to the goal line. When none of them defended the net, my interest lit up somewhat.

"[Destiny] Udogie slipped too, which allowed me a bit of extra time. After that it was all about attempting to make the correct connection and place it on target. I felt a positive feeling, as soon as it came off my foot, that it was on the right line."

Jeering Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unjustifiable - the Manager

Although Vicario's mistake dominated coverage, this was an all-round bad day for Tottenham to continue their home struggles.

This was their tenth home defeat of the year in the league, a joint team record along with nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.

The side still have home fixtures against the manager's former club Brentford and title holders the Reds to come before the close of the season.

Just a single of those victories have occurred after the manager took over from Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.

"When you're down 2-0 following the opening, there is a huge challenge to climb," stated the boss.

"When you're in a poor run, all aspects appears to work against you as well – the first was a deflected attempt, the next is a mistake from the keeper.

"The outcome leaves us in a position where we have lost another game. Every game has a unique narrative, today we were defeated in the early stages.

"We simply need to continue striving. The second half was significantly improved and with luck an aspect we can use to learn."

Spurs have lost four straight at home London derbies for the initial time in the top division.

Furthermore they are recording nine point five attempts and three point two shots on target per game in the Premier League – their lowest rates on record in a one campaign (since at least the 2003-04 season).

Ex- Cottagers midfield player Danny Murphy stated that the manager has to endure the criticism.

"He must take the criticism," the pundit said. "He's accepted a prestigious role at a major football club with enormous anticipation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that comes with that.

"The performances at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
